Complaints and Grievances

Everybody knows that one of the only things that keeps humans from living happy and fulfilled lives are other humans.  And for those that didn’t know, other humans are the primary reason you are not as content as you could be.

As a philosopher, I know it’s unreasonable to expect that people will stop caring so much about what their neighbors do and worry about their own happiness; however, I never tire of giving people advice.  Since, as long as I know a person’s problems could be lessened or avoided altogether had they taken me seriously, I don’t feel as bad if/when bad things happen to people I’ve talked to.

That being said, I want to address a major epidemic in our world today (especially, as always, found in the USA).  Complaints.  People like to complain.  In fact, people are just as stubborn with their complaints as I am about giving advice.  Sometimes we feel as though the more we complain, the closer we’ll come to getting what we want; however, in many cases, the opposite is true.  Sometimes, the more you complain, the more irritated people get, and the less willing they will be to help.

It is true that sometimes, one must complain to alert people to a problem they can solve; however, when one complains to someone who is in no position to solve that problem (as many/most people do at least occasionally), then the only thing that person does is create a cycle.  Because, the person he/she complained to will complain about him/her to someone else, and so on.

I’ve said it many many times, so I’ll say it again excess is bad, balance is good.  If you complain a lot, that’s bad, but that does not mean complaining is always bad.  Do it when you need to and hold your temper, since no one else wants it.

Stay tuned for the article to accompany this rant.  : )
