Goal Suspended: Cure for Boredom

As much as I hate to do this, I have to be completely honest with you all.

Unfortunately, due to extenuating circumstances (mostly the fact that we both now have jobs), Moe and I are unable to continue our goal of having fun every weekend. Not that we won’ have fun, but we won’t be able to plan it as… well, planned.

Truthfully, I never really had a clear plan for when the goal would end, so in a way, I could just say I achieved it and move on. However, this is not like me.

Instead, I have determined to have one last hurrah, so to speak. Though I don’t know what it will be or when it will happen, I will let you know when it does.

I think the worst part about suspending the goal it that the reason is because we are both too busy with work. The whole point was to escape from work life! Alas, life happens…

I will continue to work on anxiety. In fact, one way to do this is to invite people to do fun things with me each week! :P

We’ll see what happens.

Boredom (Week 6 & 7): Spring Break

Me catching the garterHello all!

Back from my spring break and I’m feeling quite rested, which is great! I feel like I got a lot accomplished, but I also had a lot of fun, so big success there.

I suppose the big question on your minds is “what did you do?!”

The Answer: too much to say in one sentence, so here goes… Read More…

Boredom (Week 5): Performance Weekend

So, how did the weekend go?

Very, very well! It was a LOT of fun and a lot more restful than I planned.

I can’t really say everything here, since I’d probably go on for hours (an I just don’t have the time), but I’ll give you the highlights. Read More…

Boredom (Week 3): Valentine’s Day

Week three was a little bit different because it was Valentine’s Day. Not only was alcohol involved, but we also went over our “budget.” Although, it was a special night, so we let it slide.

It was a great night, though. Since I celebrate Singles Awareness Day rather than Valentine’s Day, Moe and I and five other single friends of ours decided to treat ourselves to a fancy dinner at Legal Sea Foods. The seven of us dressed in our best attire and stormed the restaurant, looking to spend more than we could normally afford on delicious food.

And boy was the food delicious! Read More…

Boredom (Week 2): Movie Night

So here’s the deal. Friday: Me, Moe, and some other friends decided to go to the movies. Very basic concept. In fact, I almost didn’t want to use it as our “fun thing to do” since it is so common.

But I figured it is something a lot of people can do for fun without having to drink. I should put some emphasis on “have to” since it generally is the case that people go to the movies sober; though, it is not always the case.

I say it is not always the case because it was not the case this time around… Read More…

A Cappella Fest

As planned, Moe, our friend Ziva, and I went to A Cappella Fest. Overall it was a great event, though it was different than I was expecting.

We were informed that the doors opened at 7:30, so that’s when we planned to arrive. It was a frigid outside and we had to walk a few blocks from where the train dropped us off to get to the synagogue. However, when we arrived, all of the doors were locked. We checked our watches which read “7:28.” They couldn’t possibly leave us out in the cold just because we came 2 minutes too early. We tried to get the attention of the people inside, which proved difficult. Read More…

Boredom (Week 1): A Cappella Fest

For the first week of the Cure for Boredom, Moe and I decided to go to the 4th Annual A Cappella Fest presented by Congregation Kehillath Israel and Mishkan Tefila. The performance will be held at the Congregation Kehillath Israel in Brookline, Massachusetts on Saturday and Sunday this week and tickets are only $15 (proceeds benefit Ethiopian Early Childhood Education in Haifa and the Mitzvah Heroes Fund).

As a member of an Acappella group myself, I am a huge fan of the music genre. A lot of schools from around Massachusetts and elsewhere are sending their groups to the fest including Berklee, Boston University, Harvard, Brown, and many others. It should be a great, entertaining evening.

Moe and I, plus another friend of ours, are planning to go on Saturday night and I know we are all looking forward to it.

New Goal: The Cure for Boredom

Hoorah! As you can see from the title, I am starting up a new goal. And this one should be a lot of fun.

In fact, having fun is the basis of the goal itself. I call it “The Cure for Boredom.” It all began when my friend Moe and I were talking about things to do one weekend. I said that another friend of mine was throwing a party. And though I like my friend and like to hang out with her, “party” usually means a lot of drinking and a lot of people in a small space.

Both Moe and I are not big drinkers (in fact, I don’t drink at all), so going to parties like these are rarely all that fun for either of us. However, we also recognized that it seems as if that’s the only think people our age bother doing for fun. Moe then posed a question to me: “What is fun to do in the city at night that doesn’t require alcohol or a lot of money?” Read More…
