Road to Victory
It’s extremely important, when striving for a new goal, to take time to reflect on your progress. If you don’t, you’ll never be able to see just how far you’ve come.
Lately I’ve been working on speaking up, initiating and maintaining conversations. I’ve also been trying to send more invitations. Each of these has become a lot easier, almost effortless!
However, I’m still finding it difficult to do all of these things with complete strangers. I still want to work on initiating conversations strangers and inviting acquaintances to do things (in other words, making new friends). Ultimately, I am on the right track.
Talking on the phone has gotten easier, but actually making phone calls is still hard for me. However, this could be seen more as a temperament thing or a preference thing rather than a social anxiety thing.
As for physical contact… that’s another story.
Based on these new developments, I’d say that I’ve largely already succeeded! I’ve gotten so much control over my anxiety now that there are only a few instances left that it seems to interfere with my life. In light of this, I’ve decided to revise my initial list of anxiety goals.
Here’s the updated list, still in order of difficulty (items in bold are revisions):
- Speak Audibly
- Initiate Conversations/Greet Others Strangers
- Hold Conversations
- Arrange to Meet With People Acquaintances/Send Invitations
- Make Phone Calls
- Make Physical Contact
As I said, I am well on my way!
SUCCESS!

Congrats! It looks like you are making good progress!
I love how you’re a circus performer and are also introverted. I know that, with time, you’ll be through that list in no time.
I’m rooting for ya!!
