Boredom (Week 6 & 7): Spring Break

Hello all!

Back from my spring break and I’m feeling quite rested, which is great!  I feel like I got a lot accomplished, but I also had a lot of fun, so big success there.

I suppose the big question on your minds is “what did you do?!”

The Answer: too much to say in one sentence, so here goes…

The Wedding

First off, two of my friends decided to get married, so I figured I’d go to their wedding.  :P

Just kidding.  I was really happy to go!  I had a great time, too.  I even caught the bride’s garter, which meant that I was supposed to put it on the leg of the girl who caught the bouquet.  In this case, it happened to be the bride’s younger sister.

Me catching the garter

Me with the garter.

For someone who already has social anxiety, the situation could have been pretty nightmarish; though, I believe I handled it well.  There wasn’t much to it actually.  I just bent down and slipped the thing on.  And though that sounded extremely dirty, it was pretty anti-climactic.

Speaking of social anxiety, I think the whole night went extremely well for me.  I was with a lot of friends, so I had a pretty solid comfort, but I was able to get on even in tougher situations.

For example, I didn’t have much trouble dancing, which is usually hard for me.  Dancing in particular is something I’ve worked on for quite some time, and it’s taken me a while to feel comfortable dancing with or in front of others.  During the wedding, I even danced when there were only a few others on the floor, which before would have been unheard of for me.

All in all, the night was a great success.  I applaud my friends for taking the huge leap in getting hitched.  I personally don’t know that I’ll ever be ready or desirous for such a thing.

The Island

The other end of the week I spent with some friends on the island of Nantucket.  It was my second time ever in Nantucket, and it’s a truly beautiful island.  Unfortunately, it was muggy and rainy the whole time we were there.

In fact, it was so rainy and windy and gross that they were unable to run the ferries back to the mainland because the tide was too rough.  In other words, we were stuck on the island until the weather lightened up.

As a result, we had to stay an extra day and couldn’t get back home until Monday afternoon.  It wasn’t as though we disliked the extra time spent on the island, but we each had other responsibilities, expectations, or hopes for Sunday night and Monday morning which had to be canceled.

On the bright side, we had a lot of fun and the trip made for a good bonding experience between us.  I’m very happy I went!

Week’s Reflections

With all of this social behavior, I’ve noticed a lot of improvements in my social anxiety.  I’m more comfortable around people and have generally been more confident.

Take a look at my post on my Spring Break Reflection to hear more about my progress.
