Boredom (Week 5): Performance Weekend
So, how did the weekend go?
Very, very well! It was a LOT of fun and a lot more restful than I planned.
I can’t really say everything here, since I’d probably go on for hours (an I just don’t have the time), but I’ll give you the highlights.
Friday: Open Mic
Friday I attended the open mic my acappella group was hosting. Though we did sing a few songs, the stage was mostly open to anyone who wanted to sign up.
And there were so many people there that we filled up the sign up sheet before the first performer even took the stage. The best part was, just about every performance was a great performance! We had a lot of awesome and talented performers, so we were really happy.
Another highlight: after the show, some of the members of my group and I went out to a burrito place afterwords. We were so pumped up about the open mic, that we decided to go out on a limb and ask the manager of the restaurant if we could sing for free burritos. And after some deliberation, he actually said yes!
So I pulled out my harmonica, another friend took out his saxophone, and two others sang. Though we improvised the entire song (since we hadn’t prepared beforehand), it was actually quite good. And it was a good thing too, because we would have been super embarrassed if we asked to perform for food and we actually sucked.Â
But the manager, line cooks, and even the other customers seemed to appreciate our stylings. And though we managed to walk away with four free burritos, we decided unanimously that we would wait a while before attempting another impromptu performance at a restaurant.
Saturday: Vagina Monologues
Saturday was pretty uneventful. I worked most of the day (and that’s about all I did), and right afterwords I had to leave in order to make it to the show.
The show was a great end to my day, though. It was quite good, and I was really proud of my friend, who directed.
Sunday: The Little Dog Laughed
Sunday was another busy day for me, running from one place to the next. I was also running on very little sleep, so I was exhausted the entire time, but I hung in there.
As for the show, it was another wonderful end to the day. I had not heard of the performance before, so I didn’t really know what to expect. However, it was very well acted and the story was also brilliantly written.
Going Forward
Overall, I couldn’t be happier with the way the weekend turned out.
As for this week, one word: Wedding!
That’s right. Two friends of mine are getting married this weekend, so I’ll be looking forward to that.
I already have plans for the following weekend as well. Some of my friends from my acappella group will be taking a trip to Nantucket (the legendary island off the coast of Massachusetts).
Lots of fun to be had! But for right now, I just have to get through the week!
