Push Ups: Mission Complete!!
After performing my final push-up workout in February, I resolved to continue with the program until I was able to do 100 consecutive push-ups, even though I had gone over my time limit.
And it brings me great joy to say that, after seven hard weeks, my goal has been achieved!!
To be honest, I did cheat a little bit. I was supposed to perform 100 push-ups consecutively, without breaks. I ended up having to take a few breaks in order to get to 100; though, each one was only about 5 seconds long. Since the breaks were only seconds long, and since I would have never been able to even get close to 100 prior to the work-out, I’m going to go ahead and call that success.
Here is exactly how it went down:
I did 70 push-ups straight, without resting.
I stopped to rest for a few seconds, but determined to finish.
I performed another 10 push-ups, and had to stop for another few seconds. Couldn’t stop there.
Performed another 10 push-ups. Took 3 seconds.
Performed 7 push-ups. Collapsed. Too close to give up!
Mustered up whatever strength I had left and completed another 6 push-ups. Collapsed once again in a pool of sweat and glory.
The “pool of sweat and glory” was a bit exaggerated, but otherwise that’s just about what happened. All in all, I managed to perform 103 push-ups somewhat consecutively. And though I didn’t power through all 100 as I hoped, I must say I am impressed with myself. I never thought I’d be the kind of person to revel at the sight of myself in the mirror, but I have made more visual progress “chiseling” my figure in the last 7 weeks than I have in the last 2 years (probably my whole life).
That being said, I highly recommend going to hundredpushups.com and taking the challenge. As a warning, it can be quite difficult at times and you need to be extremely persistent, but it is definitely worth it (if you are looking to get into better shape).
As for me, I’m looking forward to a long rest. I am currently trying to decide on a reward for myself. If you have any suggestions, please let me know!
The images above are of me and a stock photo I found of a boxer doing push-ups. Can you tell which is which?!
