Boredom (Week 2): Movie Night
So here’s the deal. Friday: Me, Moe, and some other friends decided to go to the movies. Very basic concept. In fact, I almost didn’t want to use it as our “fun thing to do” since it is so common.
But I figured it is something a lot of people can do for fun without having to drink. I should put some emphasis on “have to” since it generally is the case that people go to the movies sober; though, it is not always the case.
I say it is not always the case because it was not the case this time around…
That’s right. What I mean to say is, we kind of failed a bit on our goal last week. I went to the movie sober as planned; however, unbeknownst to me, Moe and another in our party decided to bring some booze along with them.
As I said when I first declared this new goal, I do not drink and Moe does not drink often. However, occasionally Moe surprises me. In fact, often she surprises me (it’s one of the reasons we are friends).
This just happened to be one of those nights.
I wasn’t upset that Moe decided to drink. In fact, it made the movie a bit more entertaining since she would often laugh wholeheartedly at even subtle instances of humor and whisper her thoughts about the movie.
After the film our party retreated back to one of our friend’s rooms where we listened to records, talked/joked about the film, and generally had a great time. It just goes to show that sometimes alcohol can lead to a fun time (without negative side-effects).
Despite this, we will continue with our goal of having fun each week. In fact, next weekend we already have a dinner party planned.
There may be some drinking involved there too, but at the very least, I will remain sober as usual.
