Day 7: Laundry Day
The first week is done! I can hardly believe it’s gone by this quickly. I predicted that performing random acts of kindness would get easier as the days went on. I was wrong. Each one takes up time, energy, and thought. And you often don’t even get the satisfaction of seeing the person’s reaction to your work.
It’s a tough job, but I’m happy to do it.
Today’s RAK took place in the laundry room. In my building there is never enough laundry machines to go around. People are often waiting for others to finish so they can put their clothes in next. Read More…

Day 6: Secret Admirer
Today’s random act of kindness I am a bit unsure about. This is the first where I have been more personal and slightly dishonest. Part of my mission was to perform extreme and even unwelcome acts of kindness, like a criminal who attacks a stranger. This RAK was much more significant and targeted than my others.
Today I left someone a message by their door, addressed specifically to them. I don’t know who the person is, nor would I be able to recognize her if I saw her. I picked a room in the building I live in completely at random. I was listening to a song in my music library and I checked the length of the song I happened to be listening to. The length of the song in minutes is the floor I went to and the second count was the room number. I wrote on a note card “You have been a big help. Thank you!” and went to the room without being seen. When I reached the door, I wrote down one of the names of the residents on the card and slipped it beneath the door. Read More…

Day 5: Sharing is Caring
This one is a pretty easy one and can go a long way. I knew I wanted to get ahead in some of my work today and that I would probably be up late. I decided to get myself a snack for the night.
While browsing the store, I saw the cashier there and came up with an idea. He had probably been working for a while, why not give him an early break? I started to open the bag of chips I picked up while he was rigging up my items. After paying, I simply offered the bag to him and asked if he wanted some. Read More…

Days 3 & 4: Recap
As you may have noticed, there was no post yesterday. Not to worry, this isn’t because I forgot to perform my random act of kindness. It is merely because I had my hands full with other things, and there are but so many hours in the day.
Actually, one of the things that was taking up so much of my time is I was studying for the GRE test. For those that don’t know, the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is a standardized test which is most often used in applications for graduate school. That’s right, I’m planning on going to grad school! My major will be philosophy, could you guess?
In any case, I was still able to perform both RAKs (one yesterday and one for today). Read More…

Day 2: High Five!
Yesterday’s events inspired me in a number of ways. First off, it’s increased my resolve to be more comfortable approaching people I don’t know. Secondly, I was inspired my the squirrel I made friends with. Our “high five” made such a big impact on me that I decided I would make it my next Random Act of Kindness.
Using my experiences from yesterday as a jumping off point, I decided that I would approach a stranger, though this time I would simply offer a high five. Read More…

Day 1: Cheering Up the Park
Hooray! The moment you’ve all been waiting for!
I bet you’re dying to know what I did for my very first random act of kindness. So here’s the story:
I am currently living in the Boston area, so I decided to take a walk around the public park to see if perhaps there was someone in need of my help. I saw nothing of particular interest for a while until I ran across a man sitting alone on a park bench. He appeared to be homeless. At first, I passed him right by. Read More…

New Goal: Random Acts of Kindness
Dating is hard. There’s no good way to get into a relationship. Doesn’t make for a very compelling journey for me. In this light, I’ve decided to declare my very first sub-goal.
This new sub-goal I have declared for myself comes from myself comes from my third method. However, instead of making changes in my life to get closer to the people I am interested in, I am going to do it just for fun. My goal is to perform many Random Acts of Kindness (RAKs). Read More…

How to Cure any Illness
This is the unofficial part 2 to my article “Why Do We Get Sick?” “How to Cure Any Illness” is a look at how disease and sickness is contracted and, keeping this in mind, one can see how drugs arenot enough to heal us completely. It takes a lifestyle change.

Why Do We Get Sick?
Slightly different from my recent posts, but very relevant. This new article takes a look at some of the reasons why some people get sick versus others. It can vary depending on your lifestyle, where you live, as well as many other factors.

What Not to Change
I’ve mentioned that it is important not to change your personality; although, it is okay to make smaller or more targeted changes to yourself. People, like me, who find it difficult to get into relationships will often ask for advice from friends. Unfortunately, a lot of people tend to give poor advice when it comes to dating or flirting.
For example, people (especially young people) will often suggest that their friend join them at a bar or club. This is all well and good, but if you’re someone like me (I don’t drink and rarely dance), going to a bar or club may not be the best thing to do. Thinking about it logically, if you are the type of person who normally avoids these places, what are the chances you will find someone you can identify closely with there? Sure it’s possible, but not likely. Read More…
