Day 8: Share the Music

Today I decided to share some music as my random act of kindness.  I believe that there are a few things in the world that without a doubt every person likes/wants.  Happiness, Love, and Respect are all examples.  Music is another.

Of course, with all of these human desires there are differences in how people define them.  Something that would make one person happy will not necessarily make another person happy.  Music is the same way.  Everyone has their own preferences.  In that sense, it is difficult to know just what type of music to give to someone, especially if the person is a stranger you don’t know.

CD FlowerI personally am open to all kinds of music.  If someone has taken the time and effort required to produce it, or if there is a substantial number of people who listen to the music, I feel there must be some value to it.  With every song I listen to I determine what I like about it, what I dislike about it, and what I find interesting.  I may not like every song, but I can say for sure that there will be songs in any genre of music that I can enjoy/appreciate.

That being said, I searched through my music library for fourteen of my favorite songs from diverse musical genres.  The number 14 was completely arbitrary.  After compiling this list, I rearranged them into a track order that I though would not clash musically and I burned them to a CD.

I was lucky to have blank CDs lying around; although, I had no CD cases.  I made one using printer paper and tape and I think it came out pretty nicely.  I then wrote on the makeshift case, “Free Mix CD – Just for You!”  On the CD itself I wrote “Free Mix CD,” but then I decided to add a little incentive to whoever finds the CD to perhaps continue spreading the joy of music.  I wrote “Please Pass it Along” as a subtitle.

I figured, why not allow the person to continue the Random Acts of Kindness.  The CD does not have to stop with him/her.  Instead it can be passed along to many people.  The person could even create a mix CD of their own.

Once I was satisfied with the CD, I went out and placed it somewhere where I knew someone would find it and it would not be tossed away as garbage.  It took me a while to decide on the perfect place, but I think I made a good decision.  Once again, to protect the integrity of the RAK, I feel it best not to reveal just where I left the CD.

I now officially have less than a week until the end of the experiment.  Six more RAKs remaining.  Over the hump, but still a long way to go.
