I’ve been trying a bunch of new things lately. In class I’ve been working on such skills as the back hand spring and back tuck (I can do both, but they’re still scary to me), the aerial cartwheel, and a number of more advanced partner acro skills (including pitches and 3-ups).
Most excitingly, I’ve started to master certain skills. First off, my dive roll. I’m now able to clear 3.5 maybe 4 feet in a standing jump (without hurting myself)!
I’ve also been trying out some other acrobatic skills including the butterfly kick. I can’t see myself when I do it, so I don’t really know if it looks any good just yet. The video bellow will show you what it’s supposed to look like.
I found a great website called Just the Skills that has a ton of tutorials for these kinds of tricks. I’ve been going through them to see what I might be able to pull off.
I’ve also been putting together a staff juggling act that I can perform with. I was working on it outside yesterday and slammed my ankle pretty hard with the staff, so I’m taking it easy for a bit.
And during my break from staff, I’ve been trying out some new juggling skills. I now have Mill’s Mess pretty solidly and I’m working up to juggling four balls.
Finally, I was able to try out the cloud swing at Simply Circus. Cloud swing is something I’ve been meaning to try for a long time now, but never had the chance. It was just as fun as I hoped it would be; although, I underestimated how much it would hurt! I got some minor rope burn in my armpits and ankles, but I still managed to try out a lot of different tricks.
The only trick that was caught on video was my Russian Roll attempt. Here’s what it looked like: Russian Roll.
For the first time on cloud swing, I’d say it’s pretty good. Next time I’ll need to try it higher up!
