Sometimes people ask me why I do it. Why settle for being a circus clown?
“You could be doing so much with your life. Why this?”
“Why not get a stable job?”
Some people see it as me simply throwing away my potential.
“But didn’t you want to be a screenwriter?”
“…a professor?”
“…a mathematician?”
“…a doctor?”
“You’re so good at writing. Why not consider journalism?”
Others think it’s just me trying to rebel.
“This is just some philosophy thing, right?”
“You can’t be serious.”
“He’ll outgrow it.”
The fact of the matter is, I can’t see myself doing anything else.
Yes, I am a philosopher, a writer, a teacher…
a stunt choreographer, a meditation instructor, a psychologist,
an actor, singer, storyteller, poet…
But who isn’t?
Everyone has their talents. I’m happy with the ones I have, but I’ve made a choice.
. . .
But if you really want to know…
Just why do I do it?
It’s because of the smiles!
Because of the happiness. The love.
The joy of overcoming your fears
The bliss in teaching someone to do what they’ve never dreamed
The pure ecstasy of flight
I do it because I love to see the look on peoples faces when I tell them,
“Yes. I do this for a living.”
You can keep your suits and ties
and your nine to fives
and your commutes
and your business models
It may not be the most prestigious thing I could do.
But frankly,
It just makes more sense.
That’s why I do it.
